Summary: "For more than sixty years-by virtue of the Rizal Law-the life and works of our national hero have been discussed alongside a broadening process of understanding his experiences and heroism. Although there is clearly no lack of literature on Rizal, new texts continue to discover and re-discover aspects about the propagandist's life that enhance historical knowledge and critical thinking. This textbook aims to present interesting topics about Rizal and his time as well as new approaches to learning them. Each chapter with its corresponding activities is designed not only to meet the needs of a twenty-first century learner but also to develop the skills necessary to adapt to the current times. An underlying assumption is the idea that an analysis of a person's life cannot be separated from an analysis of the historical time the individual is situated in. Although Rizal obviously belongs to a time already past, the study of his life and works persists to bring meaning and relevance even to Filipinos of today." -- Back cover
